Have a Thinkpad P14s Gen 3 and the dock I had on my older X1 did not work well with my newer high end 4K monitors and wanted the higher bandwidth using Thunderbolt. When I received the dock it had lots of problems synching with the monitors and changing parameters so I decided to use Lenovo Thinkadvantage SW to check system and doc firmware and the doc had a critical firmware update required. Did the update and so far no problems and works great. Be sure and use 4K+ rated D/HDMI cables.
