We have a very young student and distance learning is hard, so I try to make all parts of it as easy as possible.One challenge we faced was that Google Meet has absolutely terrible controls. The control bar cannot be pinned, so it disappears (which is not good for a classroom environment), and sometimes it comes back by hovering the mouse over the other participants, other times you have to click somewhere to get it to show.I saw that you could mute/unmute with a keyboard shortcut, which made me start looking for a product I was hoping existed. I wanted a single-input device that could be programmed with a keyboard macro, but most importantly it had to store the programming on the device and not require software running because this would be used on a Chromebook. THIS is that product. I wanted one single button he could smack to unmute himself, and then smack again to mute. This makes it FUN to mute instead of tedious, which leads to a better classroom environment.It's very easy to program this on a Windows computer and then connect it to my kid's Chromebook. He got the hang of it almost immediately, too.One caveat that isn't the fault of the device at all: our school-provided Chromebook was too locked down to work with this button. It just wouldn't be recognized. But I've tried it on two other Chromebooks and it worked perfectly on those instantly.If you have a distance learning kid, get this thing for them. Or if you just want an easy way to mute your work meetings, this is the thing!
